Privacy Policy
Effective July 31, 2026
Jiu Jitsu Style is operated by Vantage Method LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what we collect, why, and what control you have. The short version: browsing Jiu Jitsu Style needs no account; with Premium you sign in with your email and your journal is backed up to your own account — but dictation audio never leaves your phone, we don't run ads or trackers, and deleting your account deletes the backup with it.
Data on your device
Everything you log — sessions, techniques, rolls, training partners, injuries, promotions, and your profile — is written to a database on your phone, and stays there whether or not it's backed up. Voice notes are transcribed on your device; the audio recording is never uploaded anywhere. Your journal itself is only uploaded once you sign in (see Backup, below). The one thing that reaches us before an account exists is dictated text: if you introduce yourself by voice while setting up your profile, that transcript is processed exactly as described under Voice logging.
Data we collect and why
Account (email address). Using Jiu Jitsu Style requires an account, and your membership attaches to it. Signing in uses your email and a one-time code (no passwords). We store your email to identify your account. Sign-in code emails are delivered by Resend, our email provider.
Backup (your journal). With an active membership, the app backs up your journal automatically as you train — sessions, techniques, rolls (including partner names you entered), injuries, promotions, and profile — to our servers (hosted in the United States) so it can be restored on a new phone and read on this website. Backup only happens while you are signed in.
Cloud video. If you back up a training clip you recorded, it's uploaded to our video host, Bunny Stream, so it can be viewed on other devices and the web journal. Videos you don't back up stay on your phone only.
Voice logging (transcribed text). When you dictate an entry, a training flow, or your profile while setting up the app, the on-device transcription text (plus, where relevant, the training-partner names you entered so they resolve correctly) is sent to our server and processed by Anthropic's Claude API to turn it into a structured journal entry or sequence. Anthropic does not use our API data to train its models. The audio itself never leaves your phone, and we do not store your dictated text after the entry is returned.
Anonymous device identifier. With each dictation request we also send a random identifier generated on your device, used only to rate-limit AI requests and prevent abuse of the service. It isn't linked to your identity, and it is sent whether or not you are signed in.
Payments. If you subscribe on the web, payment is processed by Stripe — we never see or store your card number. If you purchase through the App Store, Apple processes that payment instead. Either way, we only receive your subscription status.
What we don't do
- No ads, no selling or sharing of your data with data brokers.
- No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
- No use of your journal content for anything other than showing it back to you.
Retention & deleting your account
Server data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time — in the app (Profile → Account → Delete account) or on this site (Account → Delete account & backup). Deletion immediately and permanently removes your account, backup, cloud videos, and billing records from our servers, and cancels any Stripe subscription. An Apple subscription must be cancelled by you in iOS Settings → Subscriptions. The journal on your phone is yours and is untouched by account deletion.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit (TLS). Sign-in uses short-lived one-time codes; sessions use signed tokens stored in your phone's keychain or an http-only cookie on the web.
Children
Jiu Jitsu Style is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
